Register for either race online at Active.com. Regular registration for the Yuengling Nags Head Woods 5K race is until April 23rd. Cost is $32, with discounts for military personnel and military dependents, and for members of the Outer Banks Running Club. Late registration is from April 23rd until May 10th or until 520 people register, whichever occurs first. Late registration will cost an additional $5.

Which Service Is The Fastest?
In 2011 the U.S. Coast Guard “smoked” the Airmen, Marines, Sailors and Soldiers of our other great services for the second consecutive year.  This year the Coasties will be back to defend their “Fastest Military Service” trophy. Will the Coast Guard keep the trophy for a third year? We’ll see, on May 12th. We’ll also give trophies to the first male and female service member finishers in the 5k.

Who will be the Fastest Mom on the Beach?
What better time to find out than Mothers Day Weekend? The first Mom to cross the Finish Line will receive a trophy recognizing her achievement as “The Fastest Mom on the Beach.”  In 2011 the Fastest Mom on the Beach finished less than one second ahead of the runner up — we’ll see who’s fastest in 2012.

Which Beach Elementary School Has The Fastest Students?
There are some very fast young runners in grades 1 to 5 on the Outer Banks.  In 2011 runners from Ocracoke School won the “Fastest Elementary School on the Beach” trophy with an average time of 23:29 for their fastest three runners.  Will they keep the trophy in 2012, or will the trophy go to runners from Hatteras Island, or Roanoke Island, or Nags Head, or Kitty Hawk? We’ll find out May 12th, and the winning school will get to keep the trophy until the 2013 race.

OTHER DETAILS

This is a non-refundable charity event. Race will be held rain or shine, unless there is lightning or severe weather in the area. Shoes are mandatory. No bikes, strollers, earphones or pets will be permitted in the 5K or Fun Run. “Bandits” will not be permitted.

PACKET PICKUP

Packet pickup will be from noon – 7 PM on Friday, May 11th at the Nags Head Woods Ecological Preserve Visitor Center (701 Ocean W. Ocean Acres Dr., Kill Devil Hills). Please make every effort to pick up your packet on Friday. Limited packet pickup may be available on race day, but can not be guaranteed before race start.

PARKING & SHUTTLES

Race day parking will be in the Dare County soccer fields off West Satterfield Landing Road, Kill Devil Hills (at the southwest corner of the intersection of West Satterfield Landing Road and South Lark Ave) – approximately 1.75 miles from the race site. Signs and attendants will provide directions from Rt. 158. Shuttles will be available for transportation from the parking area to the race site beginning at 6:30 AM. NO parking will be available at the race site on race day.
